GitHub Seminar

Git is a distributed revision control and source code management (SCM) system with an emphasis on speed. GitHub is the best place to share code with friends, co-workers, classmates, and complete strangers. Over four million people use GitHub to build amazing things together.

GitHub's a great tool but it's definitely a little confusing the first time around (and, possibly, a few times after that). That's likely why GitHub created software (for OS X and Windows) to make it more user friendly. Nevertheless, it's good to learn the old techniques in order to appreciate the new ones. We will show you the basics of how to use git and how to set it up!

Perl Scripting

UPDATE:
Participants getting their own laptops would be advised to preinstall Perl on their machines. Click here to download the binaries for Windows, Mac & Linux.
Linux users will most likely have Perl installed; you can check by typing "perl -v" in your terminals.

What do games, GUIs, bio-informatics, databases, flight simulators, web peogramming have in common? PERL! Known as a 'glue language', Perl makes the easy things easy, and the hard things possible.

Perl is nicknamed "the Swiss Army chainsaw of scripting languages" because of its flexibility and power. You can use Perl in conjunction with other programming languages rather than having to rewrite existing code!

Learn to script in Perl from our ex-Secretary, Rayner Vaz who realized the wholesome goodness of Perl while doing his internship at Barclays this year.

The only requisite is to have a very basic understanding of programming language structures (if-else, loops, arrays etc). You are encouraged to come up with your own project ideas in Perl, Ray will be more than happy to assist you. Register now!

Workshop on Cellphone Hacking

What makes it different from mainstream "Ethical Hacking" workshops is that this focuses on cellphone hacking. Everyone has a smartphone these days, and you'd be surprised to know how insecure it is. If not secured sufficiently, hacking a smartphone today is enough for a cyber criminal to gain all the information he needs.

Mr. Sachin Dedhia of Skynet Secure is a cyber crime consultant with the Mumbai Police. He has consented to conduct a workshop where he'll not only teach how to perpetrate these attacks but also how to secure yourselves. Participants will be taught hacking phones, spoofing calls, phone scams, PC Hacking, surveillance of compromised devices, website attacks, steganography and much much more. There will be a lot more than just demonstrations, and participants will be encouraged to think out of the box and be creative with their attacks.

Current scams and hacks that are happening in the world will be discussed to make you more aware and enable you to secure yourselves. Methods to safeguard your online identities, netbanking transactions and even your WiFi network will be taught to you

Students will be awarded certificates by Mr. Dedhia's Government-endorsed organization on successful completion of workshop.

UPDATE:
You can pay Rs. 100 to any of our members on Thursday or Friday, and get a receipt for the Workshop. The remaining amount can be paid at the workshop itself on Saturday. Enroll soon!
